ABOUT DAWN

For the Southwest Region of Nigeria to become the preferred place of choice for people to visit, to live, to work, and to invest in Africa.

The attainment of an egalitarian, democratic and economically self-sustaining Region that unlocks the energies and resourcefulness of her people for greater good and prosperity, while assuring their liberty and freedom.

By Southwest Region of Nigeria, we refer to the Southwest geo-political zone as a definitional boundary comprising of Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, and Ondo. This also recognises the co-terminosity of neighbouring States that may be willing to engage and be part of this Development Agenda. The context however recognises the status of Nigeria as a Federal Republic, with all its inherent complexities.

The government of the region have charged the Commission to work assiduously in enacting a focused development paradigm for mobilising the collective strengths, assets and capabilities lying within the States of Southwest Nigeria, towards achieving sustainable socio-economic growth and development that would result in high standard of living improved well-being for the people of the Region

DAWN is the strategic roadmap for the composite development of the south west part of Nigeria within the framework of integrated actions by and amongst all the South Western States of Nigeria.

It is focused on areas of communal challenges and opportunities across the South Western states in Nigeria, notably in Agriculture, sports, cultural tourism and creative economy, education and environmental sustainability, Bio diversity Management, Security, Law and order, Investment attraction, the civil service, data, research and development information as well as reviving our social orientation and rebuilding our ethical infrastructure.

DAWN Commission was set up by the Governments of the Southwest States as the institution that will design and manage the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria – DAWN. It is therefore the dedicated coordinating agency, fully empowered by the Governments to ensure the delivery of the composite development aspirations of the Region.

The Commission is a dedicated technical organization that promotes and pursues sustainable development of the Southwest Region for the benefit of its people. In carrying out our mission and fulfilling our mandate, we have adopted what we describe as our 4Ms – the Commission’s cardinal driving methodology.

The 4Ms

  • 1. Make (create) development ideas
  • 2. Midwife development ideas
  • 3. Mainstream development ideas
  • 4. Monitor development ideas

DAWN Commission only speaks the language of development. Its mandate cuts across dividing lines, persuasions and inclinations. The Yoruba philosophical orientation of Agbajo Owo (collaboration) comes in handy as the underpinning concept behind our work. This orientation prescribes an unrelenting pursuance of collaborative and cooperative engagements, which would optimise the collective synergy and economies of scale of the integrating States for meeting the challenge of developing the Region for the benefit of its people.

The focus is on the following:

  • 1. Good Governance
  • 2. Economic Competitiveness
  • 3. Workforce for the Future
  • 4. Shareable & Interconnected Infrastructure
  • 5. Security and Law & Order
  • 6. Mobilised and Engaged Citizenry

DAWN Commission’s HQ office is situated on Floor No. 10 in the historic Cocoa House in Ibadan, Oyo State, Southwest, Nigeria.

51 years since its inception, Cocoa House still remains a centre for economic development for the Yoruba people and the Region.
